Report of Nash Grose on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (23 people, from Sedgley in Staffordshire) on behalf of Daniel Lankston, convicted at the Staffordshire Assizes on 14 March 1792, for stealing a live tame duck and 4 files, property of Richard Thompson, locksmith, on 16 January 1791. Evidences supplied by Richard Thompson and his maid servant. Grounds for clemency: first offence, previous good character, innocent of the crime, despairs of close confinement with hardened criminals, and has a pregnant wife and 4 small children. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy, unless he receives an offer of employment (if so, a period of imprisonment). Folios 133-136.
