"Close-up of the Avro Lancaster. This most successful of bombers is fitted with four Rolls Royce Merlin engines, has a range of nearly 3,000 miles, and a maximum bomb load of approximately 8 tons. She carries a crew of seven or eight and is heavily armed with four gun turrets. Her span is 102 feet, and speed nearly 300 m.p.h. Battle honours have come thick and fast since the famous daylight raid on Augsburg."
