Nature of request
John de Hedon states that the king had granted him the marriage of Margaret, widow of Herbert de St Quintin, tenant in chief of the king in Holderness. However, after the death of Herbert, Margaret then married Roger Husee without licence. The case was presented at Hedon before John Darcy and his companions, justices of oyer et terminer assigned to the case, but Hedon asks that judgement be made quickly, in order that he does not lose his profits from the grant.

Herbert de St Quintin died in 1347, and the petition probably dates from soon after his death, although Margery did not die until 1362. Sir John de Hedon answered for scutage in Marton in 1359.
