Nature of request
Gilbert Fitz Stephen states that Solomon de Rochester, in the last eyre in Devon, agreed an annual rent of 100s with his father Richard Fitz Stephen, payable to one of his clerks, John de Hanlo. He is now demanding the arrears of this pension in the name of his clerk. Since the taking of such pensions by justices and their clerks is forbidden by statute, Gilbert requests a remedy.

CPR 1281-92 pp.9 and 20 are dated at Cirencester, 27 January 1282 and Worcester, 19 May 1282 respectively. If this is the relevant eyre, the petition was certainly delivered some time later, as Richard Fitz Stephen, who was coerced into giving the pension, has now died.
