Nature of endorsement
Concerning to the 40 marks rent they say that King David, late king of Scotland gave that rent to them at their foundation and were seised until the sheriff removed them, and that they were in the town all the time of the rent, and did not remise it.2) And concerning to the other lands and tenements which are in Northumberland they should sue to the king.3) They should have a writ to the sheriff of Berwick to pay them the rent if it was taken into the king's hand for this reason, and should hold it as it was held previously, saving the king's right.
