- Hugh de Snyterby states that because one John de Melton came to Winterton with other men and beat and severely wounded one John Fitz William and others there, he, as constable of the peace, sued and had John de Melton convicted of this trespass, but that John, hating him for this, attacked and badly wounded him. He asks the Queen to request an oyer et terminer from the King, as he has done no wrong but acted according to his office, and as he does not dare to sue against John for maintenance of great lords.
