Doctors, bachelors, scholars and students of civil and canon law at Oxford University.

Nature of request
[A large part of this petition has been torn away.]The doctors, bachelors, scholars and students of civil and canon law at Oxford University state that they have long sued to the King's council for a remedy for the banishments of Thomas Mountagu and Henry Yngelby, and for an ordinance maliciously made by the Chancellor, proctors and regents of the Unversity against the faculties of civil and canon law, without the assent of the doctors or others of these faculties, and that on the advice of the King's council they were ordered by various writs to keep the university according to the statutes and customs formerly in use, and that the said bachelors and scholars should receive . . . estates without being coerced or bound by new oaths or bonds . . . in this parliament, where a final remedy should be ordained and discussed . . . the said patents, writs and commands of the King . . . made a new statute against those named . . . great and horrible contempt to our lord the King . . . faculties so that the one and the other . . . in this present parliament . . ..
Nature of endorsement
The Bishops of London, Ely, St David's, Chichester and Salisbury are to be appointed to bring them to an agreement on the matter contained in the petition, and if the same bishops cannot bring them to an agreement, the Archbishop of Canterbury will be [appointed] to bring them to a final agreement.
