Nature of request
The Mayor, Aldermen and commons of London state that amongst their franchises and liberties is the freedom of any person of free estate to apprentice his son or daughter as he pleases, or to receive any apprentice he pleases, and that this is being curtailed by a statute of 7 Henry IV restricting this to persons with land or rent worth 20s per annum. They ask the commons to ask the King and lords to ordain that the city of London might return to its previous usage in the matter of apprenticeships.

No evidence has been found to date this petition. Its written hand suggests it was presented in a mid fifteenth century parliament, possibly an assembly which met in the 1460s.
