Nature of request
Saint Crik for the service he has done the king at Bonnegarde, and for the losses he has suffered requests that he be granted a licence to construct a mill on a stream, and divert a further stream to make it grind as this will be to the profit of the king.

Let it be known by inquisition taken by the lieutenant of the king in Gascony the value of this, and if it is possible to make it without prejudice of the king.

The petition is dated on the guard to c. 1298-c. 1301 on the basis of an unconnected grant to the petitioner and letters ordering the payment of wages to the petitioner (CPR 1292-1301, p.365; Roles Gascons, III, pp.550-1 (nos. 5008 & 5010). There is considerable latitude for error in this dating.
