Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/81/4047
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
John de Barri (Barry) of Ireland.
Name(s)
de Barri (Barry), John
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Cork, [County Cork, Ireland]
County Cork, [ireland]
County Limerick, [Ireland].
Nature of request
Barri requests that for the service that he has done the king against the Scots and Irish the king grant him the sum that the king receives from the city of Cork to hold for the term of his life, and for which grant he will undertake the keeping the counties of Cork and Limerick with their constabularies, and be sheriff there for life.
Nature of endorsement
The council of parliament does not assent that the king should relinquish certain farms.
Note
The petition, like SC 8/81/4045, has no supporting evidence, and has been dated by the guard notes to c. 1320 as much of the contents of this file are of around that date. As the petition is endorsed in French it is quite likely to be after 1322, so a date of c. 1322 has been adopted but this must be treated with caution.
