Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged and missing a portion on its right-hand edge.] 1) The countess requests that she be put in possession of the dower lands assigned to her, and that she might be granted the custody of the remainder of the earl's other lands during the minority of the heir. 2) The countess further requests that she be granted an increase in the sum already granted to her for the maintenance of the heir.
Nature of endorsement
. . . third part of the issues of the lands and tenements which . . . lately her husband's, and which at his death . . . of the king exist from the time of the death of . . . of which writ the king is not answered and the issues . . . reasonable dower from the same lands and tenements . . . assigned to the same. 2) . . . nothing is to be done at present.
Note
The petition is likely to date to 1334 as another version of this petition was presented to the parliament in 8 Edward III, and the countess did receive an increase in her allowance for the maintenance of the heiress to the earldom of Ulster on 28 September 1334 (Rot. Parl., vol. II:: p.73b (no.2); CPR 1334-8, p.31).
