Reference
SC 8/80/3969
Date
[? 1361]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Ilchester.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The burgesses request that the allowance in their farm granted to them because of a grant to William . be allowed as they had this until recently when the sheriff was ordered to levy the full farm against the form of their charter.
Nature of endorsement
The bill is ordered into Chancery, and their charters are to be viewed, and if by certification of the Exchequer it is found that they have had this allowance until now, and there is no other reasonable cause for it to be levied then let justice be done there.
Places mentioned
Ilchester, [Somerset].
People mentioned
John, King of England
William [Dennis].
Note
The petition appears to date to 1361 as a full entry in the close rolls seems to accord with the response to this petition (CCR 1360-4, p.193). However this close roll entry concerns a slightly different sum, and there is no explanation of the difference between the petition and the close roll entry.
