Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/78/3882
Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Westminster.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbot of Westminster
Nature of request
The abbot requests remedy and that he be served of the rent from lands appurtenant to a tenement called Hidelond in Laleham which Englefield held from him, and which is in the king's hand by an exchange with Englefield for land in Cumberland. He hasn't been served with the rent since the exchange.
Nature of endorsement
Certain people are to be assigned to enquire of the matter in the presence of the keeper, and the inquisition is to be returned into Chancery. If it is found that the tenement is held of the abbot, and that he and his predecessors were seised of it until the exchange, then the rent and the value of the works are to be paid or satisfaction made in another manner to the abbot.
Places mentioned
Laleham, Middlesex
Cumberland.
People mentioned
Robert de Englesfeld (Englefield).
Note
An inquisition was held concerning the land that was exchanged in early 1331, though this does not seem to be the inquisition held in response to the petition (CIM 1307-49, no.1217). The petition is not likely to be too much later.
