Description
Petitioners
Roland de Vaux; Richard de Salkeld; John de Barthewyk (Bathwick).
Name(s)
de Vaux; de Salkeld; de Barthewyk (Bathwick), Roland; Richard; John
Addressees
King's council.
Nature of request
Roland de Vaux, heir of Roland de Vaux, Richard de Salkeld, and John de Barthewyk, tenant of the lands and tenements of John de Barthewyk, state that they were appointed to receive £100 from Hugh de Moresby, then Sheriff of Cumberland for the wages of men at arms whom they were to find for Lochmaben castle. They did this, as can be found by an inquisition taken by the Barons of the Exchequer: but the Barons of the Exchequer are refusing to discharge them or account with them, because an indenture mentioned in the assignment of this £100 has been lost. They request a writ to the Barons of the Exchequer that, notwithstanding this lost indenture, if they find by record or by inquisition that it is as they say, they are to discharge them of the £100 by a reasonable account.
Nature of endorsement
The Barons of the Exchequer are to appear before the Chancellor, and when the arguments touching the points of this petition have been shown there, justice is to be done there.
Places mentioned
Cumberland
Lochmaben, [Dumfriesshire, Scotland].
People mentioned
