Nature of request
John Southcoupier asks the King to order the Treasurer of the Wardrobe to pay him a sum of money owed him by the King for carrying wine and flour from Bordeaux to Newcastle upon Tyne in the sixteenth year of his reign, for which he has accounted in the Wardrobe.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.The Treasurer and Barons are to be ordered to examine the bill and, calling before them the then Treasurer of the Wardrobe, if they find that the King was served with these goods, the payment is to be made by the Treasurer and Chamberlains.

Note
The petitioner states that he carried the wine and flour from Bordeaux to Newcastle in the king's sixteenth year (8 July 1322-7 July 1323): which accords with his statement in SC 8/75/3702 that he has a bill of the Wardrobe under the seal of Roger de Waltham, Keeper between 1 May 1322 and 20 October 1323 (the amounts in the two petitions, and in Sc 8/75/3704, tally). As the debt is owed by the present king, the petition must date from 1323-1327.
