Nature of request
Streth requests that the king will order his mother to deliver 40 acres of land in the manor of Mottram to him. Vernoun granted him the land for his life for his service. After Vernoun's death the manor was taken into the hand of Despenser from whom it was held in chief, including the 40 acres, as it was believed that Streth was dead. After Despenser's forfeiture the manor is in the queen's hand but she has refused to deliver answering that he should sue to the king.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.2) It seems to the council that he ought . . . by the common law or in another manner . . . that this thing touching the queen the mother . . . show to the king.3) Because it is alleged by the petition that the free tenement is in the hand of Queen Isabella, he should sue a writ at the common law.
