Nature of request
John de Preston, the King's tenant, states that Bartholomew de Bourghwash accosted him in St Paul's church and accused him of speaking ill of him and of procuring people against him; and he forced him by threats to pledge him a large sum of money as compensation, of which he has refused to acquit him. John asks for the king's grace, that he might order Bartholomew to cease this arbitrary demand, and allow him to acquit himself of the accusations made against him.
Nature of endorsement
This bill is to be sent, within a writ of the targe, to Bartholomew de Badelesmere, that he may bring his kinsman to do what he ought to do on this matter, according to justice and reason.
