Nature of request

The burgesses of Newcastle upon Tyne state that the Prior of Tynemouth is encouraging merchants to unload their ships at North Shields and to deal with him, depriving them of their customs and the king of his prises; and that he has also transformed North Shields from a collection of huts to shelter fishermen driven ashore by storms into a large town, forestalling Newcastle by brewing and baking to supply these merchants. They ask for a remedy to save their franchise, and, as the Prior has impleaded them in Common Pleas, that judgment might not be given in this case without the king or his representative, as they fear the influence of the Prior.

In Chancery. He is to sue a writ for the king and the burgesses of Newcastle to have the Prior of Tynemouth come to the next parliament after Easter.He is to have a writ according to the form of the petition.
