Nature of request
The Friars Preachers of Newcastle upon Tyne state that when the Earl of Warwick was warden in those parts and lodging in their house, their gates were broken down during a dispute between his men and the men of the town, who have not allowed them to replace the gates since. They request permission to construct new gates, and a charter allowing them to stand forever. They also ask the king to forbid anyone to knock them down in future, on pain of all he can forfeit.
