Nature of request
Masecref requests that since the bailiffs who took his cattle had no warrant of any king to take tonnage, that amends be made, and that merchants be able to pass without damage, and that Masecref be able to have his damages that were awarded by the first inquisition into the matter since the bailiffs of Richmond are still seised of his cattle. The bailiffs procured a second inquisition claiming that the first was taken against the liberty of the shire.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.2) They should view the record of Ralph Engham and Nicholas de Stapellton, and they should call John de Bretagne or his steward that he be before the king to plead in the octave of St Michael. And in the meantime they should replevy the cattle and . . . the customary payment.3) Coram rege . . .4) They should have the record for the damages at the term.

This petition has been dated on its guard to 1280-88. The petition itself refers to 9 Edward I, and Stapeldon was serving as a justice in Yorkshire in 15 Edw. I (JUST 1/1080).
