Description

Fawkener to Newcastle: the situation has improved with the arrival of the Hessians and the Ostend garrison from Mons, and the imminent arrival of the exchanged prisoners. Ath has capitulated and the garrison is marching to Brussels. He doubts the French intend to invade, as there are no warships between Ostend and Boulogne. Alarm at the bad news from Bohemia [battle of Soor]. Dated at camp at Vilvoorde. ff. 330, 331
