Description
Petitioners
Community of Jersey and Guernsey
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The community of Jersey and Guernsey state that their Keeper, John de Roche, is trying to levy farms and rents in a manner contrary to their customs, and that they ought to be levied as is observed in the manner in which the Duchy of Normandy pays to the King of France. They request a writ to him that they might be quit of such payments, and that they might pay as the Duchy of Normandy does to the King of France.
Nature of endorsement
[None]

People mentioned
John de Roche (Roches), Keeper of the Channel Islands
Note
CCR 1327-30 p.350-351 is dated at Gloucester, 19 December 1328, and seems to pre-date this petition. As the writ sent in response [SC 8/54/2670 or SC 8/54/2674] is sent out on 28 July 1329, this seems to fit well.
