The petitioner seeks the arrest of certain Flemings in the power of the count of Flanders until restitution be made for his goods that were on board his ship called the le Messager of Berwick, because on 15 March 1315 they took the ship from near the shore off Dunwich (whilst it was en route for Flanders) with the goods of the petitioner and his fellows on board: 100 sacks of wool worth 1100 marks (11 marks per sack); 400 cowhides and oxhides worth £50; 10 sacks of wool-fells worth £50; the ship worth £80, and 100 salmon worth 10 marks, and headed for Flanders after killing 15 men they found on board.
