Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/44/2180
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Alexander de Bicknor, Archbishop of Dublin.
Name(s)
de Bicknor, Alexander
Addressees
King and council
Occupation
Archbishop of Dublin
Nature of request
The archbishop shows that his predecessor and Wogan made a recognizance to Despenser, which came into the king's hand by Despenser's forfeiture. The treasurer and barons of the Dublin Exchequer are now demanding the sum from him against the law and he requests remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons that they levy the debt from the lands of Wogan and discharge the archbishop.
Places mentioned
Ireland.
People mentioned
John de Leyk (Leche), late Archbishop of Dublin
John Wogan, knight
Hugh le Despenser.
Note
The petition seems to date to c. 1327 as it is clearly after the fall of the Despensers, and cannot be far into the new reign. The reason for Connolly's dating to 1319-21 seems erroneous ('Irish Ancient Petitions', p.15).
