Nature of request
Debenham requests that an arrest be made on the people of the power of the king of France to the value of the boat and goods that were stolen by people of the same power. The admiral of the king ordered that his boat called the Katherine be equipped to go in the service of the king. It was assailed by men of the power of the king of France in 4 boats equipped for war who killed the crew and took the boat, goods and chattels, the matters of which are contained in an inquisition returned into Chancery.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.2) If it found by inquisition returned into Chancery that the robbery was made in the manner, because the passage is not open . . . as is the manner in such cases, he should have a writ of arrest upon the peers and commoners of those trespassers of the places whereof the same trespassers are from upon their goods found in England, thus that at all times that the goods of aliens who are resident in the land who are in lot and scot with others of the land, or who hold free tenements there are not to be arrested by colour of the arrest.
