Nature of request
The abbot and convent state that they have been despoiled for 30 years or more by the Scottish war, and also by the king's host when it was at Stanhope Park, so that by the war their houses are burnt and their land lies fallow, by which they are destitute. They request that the king grant a pardon to them of £27 13s. 4d. for victuals that they bought in the time of Edward II at Newcastle upon Tyne, for which debt they are charged by a summons of the Exchequer to the sheriff of Northumberland by which they are not able to have profit from their lands nor from anything that they have.
