Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/34/1666
Date
[? 1369-? 1371]
Description
Petitioners
Henry de Brisele (Brisley); John de Coloigne.
Name(s)
de Brisele (Brisley); de Coloigne, Henry; John
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Devon
Somerset.
Nature of request
Brisele and Coloigne state that they lately had the gold and silver mines in Devon and Somerset for the terms of 15 years by a patent of the king rendering to the king the 9th part. If the mines should fail they were to be quit and discharged as is contained in the patent. The mines are exhausted and they have requested for a long time to be discharged and are still not able to be delivered. They request that they be discharged.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition would seem to date to the period 1369-1371. Brislee and Coloigne were given a fifteen year lease of the mines on 26 July 1369, and were still in possession in January 1371 when a controller was appointed of the profits from the mines (CPR 1370-4, p.32; CCR 1369-74, p.106). How accurate this dating is depends on how accurate the petitioners were when they stated that they had taken the lease lately.
