Description

Nature of request
Philip Darcy states that the Prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England has sued a scire facias in the King's Bench against him, concerning the manors of Temple Hirst and Temple Newsam, concerning the ordinance made in parliament in the seventeenth year of Edward II's reign, concerning the lands of the Templars, to which Philip claimed that Edward III granted the manors to Mary de St Pol for term of life, with reversion to John Darcy, knight, and the heirs male of his body, and in default of heirs male to the king; and Philip is the son of John Darcy's son John. The Prior sued to have a writ of procedendo, and Philip produced a charter from Thomas le Archier, formerly Prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England, granting these manors, together with the manors of Denney, Strood and Faxfleet, to Edward II and his heirs. Philip requests that no writ of procedendo be granted to the Prior against this charter, but that the king might give the order to stay proceedings in the plea until the matters contained in the petition are fully made clear in parliament.
