SC 8/15/721
Date

Description
Petitioners
Tenants by barony in Wales.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The tenants show that they are suitors of the county of Cardigan where they at all times plead and are impleaded for all manner of pleas before the king's constables of Cardigan and nowhere else. Now the king's ministers and justices have forced them to plead at the county of Carmarthen out of their liberty and usages. They request remedy.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.2) Let it be ordered to the justices that they enquire of the thing, and certify the king in his Chancery.
Places mentioned
Cardiganshire, [Wales]
Kaermerdyn (Carmarthenshire), [Wales]
Gales (Wales).
Note
The petition is likely to date to 1331 when an inquisition was held concerning the burgesses of Lanpadarne's complaints about having to go to the court of Carmarthen. It is possible that though the petitioners named in the petition are rather vaguely described, that they were in fact these burgesses (CIM 1307-49, 1243).
