Description
Petitioners
Richard de Somery.
Name(s)
de Somery, Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Somery shows that he was in the peace of the king and had the manor of Bygrave. By the accusation and procurement of certain illwishers certain men, namely Prestbury and others of the county of Hertford came to the manor and took his goods and chattels to the value of £200 and were held by Baldock, though he was not of their affinity. He requests grace and remedy. He further requests that whereas Baldock has been granted the keeping of the lands of the heir of Hugh Bigod in Orwell until he is of age, that he can have this keeping in restitution and allowance of the goods and chattels taken from him.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue at common law.
Places mentioned
Bygrave, [Hertfordshire]
Orwell, [Cambridgeshire].
People mentioned
Robert de Prestebury (Prestbury)
Robert de Baldoc (Baldock)
Hugh Bigod.
Note
This petition seems to date to late in the reign of Edward II, or more likely early in the reign of Edward III, as the petitioner is trying to obtain a wardship for wrongs done to him in which the chancellor Robert Baldock was involved though apparently not complicit. 1327 seems more likely.
