SC 8/12/597
Date
[1348]
Description
Petitioners
Collectors of wool and fifteenths of the county of Oxford.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The collectors show that the hamlet of Finstock, one of the hamlets attached to the town of Charlbury is assessed for considerably more wool than the town. Because of this outrageous sum running upon the hamlet the tenants have all left their land and it lies fallow, so that the collectors are unable to find distresses to levy the sum. They request that the king grant a commission that the town and hamlets be put in common, so that the king can be served, and the collectors be allowed this for the reason.
Nature of endorsement
Coram ipso rege.
Places mentioned
Charlbury, [Oxfordshire]
Finstock, [Oxfordshire].
Note
Firmly datable to one of the two parliaments of 1348 by references in CIM 1307-49, p.521 (no. 2075) and CPR 1348-50, p.81; see PROME, parliament of January-February 1348, appendix no. 8.
