Description
Petitioners
Alan de Corbrigg (Corbridge), son of Richard de Corbridge.
Name(s)
de Corbrigg (Corbridge), Alan
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Alan, son of Richard de Corbrigg, states that he petitioned the king at his last parliament for the return of a messuage and three shops, with appurtenances, in Berwick, which he had before the war, but which have since been taken into the king's hand, claiming that he was English born, had always lived in England in the king's allegiance, and did service to the king at the taking of Berwick. The king granted him a writ to John de Segrave and John de Sandale, that they should hold an inquisition and give him a swift remedy. The inquisition found that all was as Alan said, but they could do nothing, as other people have been enfeoffed with the messuage and shops by the king's charters. He requests that they be returned to him, as he has done nothing against the king or against anyone else because of which he should be forjudged. He says that the writ and inquisition are sewn to the petition, but they appear to have been lost.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue before the king's lieutenant in Scotland and the chamberlain, and the parties are to be called, and if it is found that he was not against the king's peace, the messuage and shops are to be returned to him immediately, notwithstanding the charter. And he is to have a writ for this.
