Nature of request
William Coppe of Southampton requests the return of his ship and his goods found in it, wrecked off the coast of Cornwall, which have been seized into the king's hand by the sheriff of Cornwall He states that he sent his ship to Cornwall with various merchandise worth twenty pounds, under the command of Roger Baret and other men of his, and that John de Irlaunde and David his companion, asked to be taken to Cornwall; but once on board they killed Roger and his companions, sunk the ship, and made for shore with ten pounds in money, evading the local people and taking refuge in a church; from where they acknowledge what they have done. He states that he is ready to prove that the goods are his, and requests an answer while the sheriff is present.
