Nature of request
Henry Pas states that when the king commanded the sheriff of Northamptonshire by his writ that all knights and squires in the county were to come to him at Cirencester on a certain day, Henry, because he was too weak to serve in person, sent his valet Geoffrey de Barnack, suitably armed and mounted, who served the king until he had permission to return home. Nevertheless, the sheriff has levied forty shillings from Henry for the fine paid by those who did not answer the summons: so he requests a remedy.

He is to get a testimony for the steward or marshall that he sent someone else to serve in his place, and he is to bring this to Chancery, and there have a writ on the contents of the petition.

Note
One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which all seem to date from around 1322. This dating is confirmed by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum I, pp. 387-415, which dates these petitions to 15 or 16 Edward II (1321-1323).
