CO 37/214/35
1883 Aug 31
Reports that the new prison could not be built on the land transferred by the War Office because the House of Assembly refused to change the law that states that the new gaol should be built on the same site as the existing prison. Therefore the plans had to be delayed, as land next to the present gaol would have to be purchased leaving inadequate funds for the construction of the new buildings. Encloses a letter from the War Office. Also see CO 37/214/12 and CO 37/214/40
