Decyhered letters, with some blank spaces, from Monsieur Champigny to Count of Maurepas, Martinique. Champigny informs Maurepas that British ships lead by squadron commander Knowles were seen in Santa Lucia [St Lucia] and that British deserters came towards the French. He speaks about different warships, about the necessity of fortifying the post of Isle Taramiers and of preventing the enemy from anchoring in those roads. He wishes he could take more initiatives without waiting for an order of the King. He has attached a copy of a proclamation of Knowles offering protection to the inhabitants of the Isle of [blank] in return for their neutrality. He requests reinforcements. Pages 169-181
