Report of John Wilson on John Edward and David William Walter, convicted in Wales, for sheep stealing. The judge is critical of the high sheriff's attempt to plead mercy on behalf of Edward. The judge claimed that there had been no executions for sheep stealing in the locality for 20-30 years. The 2 men were of bad character. To spare them would be dangerous and the lesson to be learned from their execution 'will be a public benefit of extreme importance in that part of the world'. Grounds for clemency: High Sheriff had said that Edward's brother (his tenant) was of good character. Initial sentence: both, death. Recommendation: both, no mercy.
Folios 64-68.
