Marlborough to Boyle: he has heard of the treaty between the king of Prussia [Frederick I] and the duke of Mecklenburg from the courts of Hanover and Denmark, who are not satisfied with it, and he thinks the king of Sweden will be of the same mind. He suggests that the queen delays her response to the king of Prussia for as long as possible. He thanks Boyle for the copy of the instructions sent to Sir John Leake, which are reasonable if it can be proved that the pope [Clement XI] contributed to the late intended invasion. The landgrave of Hesse is making demands for the march of his troops to the Moselle. Marlborough encloses a copy of the landgrave's letter [SP 87/3/19], the conditions he requires [SP 87/3/20] and the answer he has sent him [SP 87/3/21]. He has sent copies of his letter to the landgrave to The Hague and to the count de Rechteren. He suggests that Boyle sends for Mr. Henning, who is authorized to receive [the landgrave's] arrears from the last war. The elector of Bavaria should set out from Mons that day and be in Strasbourg by the twentieth, and the duke of Berwick should have assembled his troops on the upper Rhine by then.
