Fall of the castle of Venlo [on September 14/25] and preparations for attacking Roermond and Stevensweert. Tallard has crossed the Meuse for Bonn or the upper Rhine. The emperor [Leopold I] is so far from sending troops from the upper Rhine into Italy that the elector Palatine and Prince Louis of Baden have sent Count de Lechering to ask Marlborough to press the states [general] to send 15,000 men, which he thinks is impossible.
