The Acquisition of Land (Authorization Procedure) Act 1946 superseded various measures under which local authorities previously sought authorisation to acquire land compulsorily. The series contains all known cases of authorization in writing. The majority of orders were made under powers contained in the Housing Act 1936, and a few under the Local Government Act 1933, the Public Health Act 1936, the Water Act 1943 and the Police Act 1946. The list contains alphabetical indexes for each category of local authority in England and Wales.
