Description

This series consists of files of the British War Crimes Executive (BWCE) at Nuremberg, and of the Court Contact Committee of that Executive. The BWCE files cover internal administration and liaison with other Allied Government delegations, and include minutes of prosecutors' meetings.

The files of the Court Contact Committee, which constitute the bulk of the series, are predominantly concerned with applications, submitted on behalf of the defendants, for the calling of witnesses and the production of specific documents. These applications were referred by the International Military Tribunal to the Court Contact Committee, who were required to notify, on behalf of the prosecutors, any objections to the individual applications.

Related material

Records of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, responsible for the trials of the major German war criminals in 1945-1946, are now deposited at the Imperial War Museum, although original court material is held by the International Court of Justice at the Hague.
