(i) Obligation of Gilbert Leslie of the cottown of Maryculter in Denhead to Mr. Matthew Lumsdon, burgess of Aberdeen, for a debt of 40 marks Scots, the price of two oxen. Leslie contracts to pay the principal at Whit Sunday 1632, together with £10 'expenses' in case of failure, and the 'ordinar annual rent and profeit according to ten for the hundrethe'. He agrees to registration in the books of council or the sheriff's books of Aberdeen or Kincardine, to have the force of a decree allowing for penalties of horning, etc., and appoints [blank] his procurators. The document was written by Lumsdon. Two witnesses [named], to the obligation. [Signed by] both witnesses. 1. Note that Leslie, who cannot write, had his hand led by 'the Mr. underwretin'. 2. [? William] Donaldson, notary public [? certifies that 1. is true]. Latin. Aberdeen, 28 October 1631. (ii) 3. [In different hand, in first person]: Leslie's procurator appeared and consented to the registration. [Signed]: A. Balten[? ell]. [Endorsed, in two hands]. Edinburgh, 19 March 1634. (iii) 1.
