Folio 261: Representation of the board of trade to the king, in reply to an order to prepare a statement of British rights at Albreda. It sets out all the information from 1588 to the Definitive Treaty [of Paris, 1763]. The only reason the French were allowed to establish a post there was that the African company tolerated it for lack of adequate naval forces to prevent it.
Date and place: 1764 July 21 Whitehall.
