Folio 7: Intelligence, most secret, sent to Stormont in London. Aiguillon is making progress in negotiations with the princes of the Empire about the navigation of the Rhine. The landgrave of Hesse, piqued at false hopes raised by the king of Prussia about the crown of Poland, is concluding a subsidy treaty with France, giving her the disposition of all Hessian troops. The elector of Saxony the duke of Mecklenburg are too near to Prussia to dare ally themselves to France. Aiguillon is said to be planning to join Britain in measures to meet any violation of the German Empire. Paris has ordered a French house in London to contract at Cork for deliveries of provisions to Toulon and also to contract for lead from Chester to Marseille.
