Folio 282: Rochford to Harcourt. Although there is evidence of fortifications at Pondicherry, France is not restrained by treaty from this. But the build up of forces on the French islands, as reported by sir John Lindsay, is another matter. He is to put it to Aiguillon that, if a considerable number of troops were embarked for Pondicherry, [rear admiral] sir Robert Harland, [commander East Indies], might feel obliged to prevent it, with consequences he would surely wish to avoid.
