Folio 14: Walpole to Shelburne. Paoli will not submit to the French in Corsica. France will transport to Genoese territories Jesuits landed in Corsica from the Spanish dominions. Thence they will be conveyed to the Papal states via Modena and Ferrara (Ferrarese). Rome is alarmed at the duke of Modena's preparations to take Ferrara. The court of Vienna is likely to support him. He refers to Russian encroachments on the Turkish frontiers in pursuit of confederates.
The duc de Duras succeeds Aiguillon as Lt. general of Brittany. The chancellor [Berryer] is to resign, probably succeeded by Maupéou. The present controller general would become keeper of the seals and either Breteuil or Foulon would succeed L'Averdy. The only immediate change, however, is the retirement of the vice-chancellor, Maupéou becoimg chancellor and keeper of the seals and Aligre first president of the Parlement of Paris.
Date and place: 1768 Sept 14 Paris.
