Folio 168: Richmond to Conway. Reports on conference with Choiseul and Praslin, accompanied by his brother [lord George Henry]. Long detailed talk about the demolitions at Dunkirk, Choiseul referred to previous treaties, in particular Aix-la-Chapelle, and denied that France had an obligation to destroy the jetties completely. He put forward 4 proposals, some of which Richmond did not accpet. Richmond was sending the messenger carrying this letter via Dunkirk, so that Desmaretz could see it. Praslin promised the return of the children referred to in ff.66, 84, to their parents or guardians in return for a formal guarantee of reciprocity. Richmond asks for authority and a draft. Praslin asked why d'Eon had not been arrested, Brown was a very bad character, who did not merit Britain's concern. Encloses f.176. There is no hope of the Dauphin's recovery. Encloses letter for the king from Condé about the duke of Cumberland.
Date and place: 1765 Nov 30 Fontainebleau.
