Folio 402: Prior to Bolingbroke. France and England are prepared to co-operate to obtain peace. Prince Eugène moderated his demands and Treaties of Nijmegen and Ryswick should form basis for a settlement. Villars ordered to protect Savoyan interests in Italy but France will not delay peace on this account. French who have invested money will suffer a great financial loss. French King will never be in a condition to repay the capital. Encloses memorial from Pelletier to de Torcy concerning Dunkirk. Requests that three sluices at mouth of canals may be left intact to prevent flooding of adjacent lands. Dowager Lady Jersey is still inimical. Postscript: The Pretender has dismissed Lord Middleton and made Higgens his secretary. Middleton is to be Master of the Horse and Overseer to the family of the Queen Dowager at St. Germain. The Pretender will reside at Berne. Sent to Post Master General, the treaty concerning correspondence ratified by de Torcy.
