ED 230
1905-1947
Procedure minutes and instructions issued by the Board of Education and its successors covering such subjects as the employment of teachers, the conduct of pupils, preparation of statistics, interpretation of the Education Acts, management of public elementary schools and the payment of grants.
The minutes and instructions also contain advice on the assessment of school accommodation; the recognition, amalgamation and closure of schools; the procedures for the compulsory acquisition of sites for new schools; guidance on the appointment and the liabilities of managers; on the probation, recognition, appointment and dismissal of teachers and their rights of appeal. The standard rates of pay and pension arrangements and internal office procedures such as the organisation of files, are also given.
This collection has a high Welsh content and may have been left behind when the Welsh Department of the Ministry of Education moved to Cardiff.
An index for the procedural minutes of Wales can be found at the front of the file in ED 230/3.
The papers are arranged in the original number sequence, with five separate folders of Welsh procedures and instructions.
