Registered files of the Department of Education and Science Schools I Branch containing information on most aspects of primary and secondary education with specific reference to schools.
Particular subjects include, the introduction of comprehensive education, the department's reaction to Lady Plowden's Report on children and their primary schools, and its relationship with independent schools, complaints from parents about placement and availability of school places, bullying and ethnic problems as well as more routine files dealing with the provision and maintenance of school buildings.
The majority of files in the series relate to individual schools.
This series was introduced in 1966 replacing the existing S series, which continued to be in use simultaneously until 1970.
